Around and about

Situated on the border of Umbria and Tuscany and near Lake Trasimeno, an area of great Etruscan importance, lies the residence “Case Graziani”.

This is a perfect starting point for those who wish to visit the historical areas, the countryside and enjoy the wines and foods of the two regions.

Umbria with its rolling hills exudes peace and harmony and has been for centuries the natural road of communication between Florence and Rome of the Apennines and the Tiber valley via foot.  From Case Graziani it is possible to visit Rome, Florence, Siena and many other cities also by train (approximately in 1,30 hours).

Cities in Umbria are easily accessible by car due to the short distances and good roads (you can reach many beautiful hamlets with short trips of 15-20 minutes).

Perugia, Gubbio, Orvieto, Spoleto, Città di Castello, Spello and Todi with their urban architecture, are testimony to the Etruscan, Medieval and Renaissance periods. Each town is a jewel, conserved in a countryside where the green is interrupted only by the red roof tiles, the pink stone of Assisi, the yellow volcanic rock of Orvieto, the blue of Lake Trasimeno, and the coloured textiles and ceramics of Deruta.

The area has many hermitages and monasteries built in beautiful places, you can admire the architecture of Umbria’s churches and its art work including the Basilica of San Francesco of Assisi and the Duomo of Orvieto.

Case Graziani is surrounded by many hill tops towns such as Citta delle Pieve, Castiglione del Lago, Panicale and Chiusi. These little hamlets often conserve important works of arts and also enjoy fantastic views across the lake and hills of Umbria. Historically Chiusi known as “Chiugi” was so linked with Tuscany – topographically and administration wise, that still today it retains some of out local dialect.

From Case Graziani it is possible to visit some of the most important wine producing areas in Italy. Orvieto and Montefalco for its Sagrantino and Torgiano and many other wine producing areas that make wine to accompany Umbria’s simple country cuisine of excellent quality such as locally caught pheasant, rabbit and wild boar, tagliatelle, sausages, beans, mushrooms, truffles, salami and fish from the lake, olive oil and world famous chocolate.

Lake Trasimeno with its three islands and national park attracts nature lovers and people who enjoy sailing and fishing.

In Umbria there are also important music festivals such as: Umbria Jazz festival, Spoleto Festival and many sagre musicali.

CaseGraziani is close to many Tuscan cities and towns: visit Chiusi and its Etruscan tombs and monumentsCortona, Arezzo, Chianciano Terme and Montepuciano with its renowned wine of the same name. Visit the Valley of Orcia to see Pienza, Montichiello, MontalcinoSan Quirico and Bagno Vignoni.

From Chiusi, which is only 5 mins away, it is possible to go by car or train to San Gimignano, Siena, Certaldo, Florence, Pisa and Lucca.
